FAQ / Using Checkivo Internationally

Using Checkivo Internationally

Cross-border subscriptions and local payment methods for European and global DTC.

Which countries can I sell to?

You can sell wherever your Shopify store and Stripe account support checkout. Checkivo is especially strong for European recurring payments (iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA) while still supporting cards and wallets internationally.

Are local payment methods available per country?

Yes via Stripe. Enable iDEAL for the Netherlands, Bancontact for Belgium, SEPA Direct Debit for euro recurring, cards everywhere Stripe supports them, and wallets where Apple Pay / Google Pay are available.

Does the checkout support multiple languages?

Checkout and portal copy can follow your locale setup. The marketing site itself is localized (EN, NL, DE, FR, ES, IT and more). Ask support if you need additional checkout languages for a specific market.

How do taxes and VAT work?

Tax calculation typically follows your Shopify Markets / tax configuration and Stripe tax settings where enabled. You remain responsible for correct tax configuration in the countries you sell to.

Can I run multiple storefronts or brands?

Multi-store setups are supported on Core Pro with priority onboarding. Each shop connects Shopify + Stripe; we help you keep billing and portals consistent across brands.

What about currency conversion?

Presentment and settlement currencies follow Shopify Markets and your Stripe account. Recurring prices should be defined carefully per market to avoid surprise FX on renewals.

Is Checkivo only for Europe?

Europe is a primary focus because of local recurring methods and fee savings vs stacked Shopify + subscription apps — but merchants selling more broadly still use Checkivo’s Stripe checkout and portal.

Do SEPA mandates work for subscriptions?

Yes. SEPA Direct Debit is a first-class path for euro recurring charges, with mandate handling via Stripe and customer portal updates when a bank account must change.

Can I geo-route payment methods?

You can prioritize methods that match the shopper’s market (e.g. iDEAL first for NL). Exact availability still depends on Stripe + shopper location and currency.

Who helps with international go-lives?

Core docs cover standard markets. For multi-country launches, Core Pro onboarding helps sequence methods, prices and portal messaging per region. Contact /contact/ for a rollout plan.
